seolstudios was born out of a leap of faith and a love of wool.
In 2024, Ailbhe Beatty established seolstudios following a traineeship in Donegal Weaving in Kilcar, Co.Donegal under the watchful eye of Master Weaver John Heena.
The passion behind seol is driven by a deep sense of care and connection to Irish heritage, and a fascination with the equipment and materials that produce these beautiful textiles.
Ailbhe’s practice is underpinned by a decade of experience in architecture, where the over-consumption and waste associated with the construction industry prompted a re-evaluation of the role of indigenous craft and local materials in everyday life.
Beginning life as @girlmeetsloom, a platform dedicated to recording the restoration of a traditional Donegal four-shaft floor loom, seolstudios aspires to create bespoke pieces that are steeped in tradition and contemporary in nature.
Ailbhe is committed to the preservation and fostering of this indigenous craft that speaks to the heritage, material culture, and sustainability of Ireland.
We are excited to share this journey with you!
